Buittle Place (7 of 7)
Its previous owner having been jailed for defrauding the taxman, Buittle Place is now owned by two cousins, The Right Reverend Father James Stuart Habsburg Cavendish, who is American, and the Very Reverend Father Tobias Parker. They are Orthodox priests and Buittle Place, with its tower and ancillary buildings, which include a chapel, is now called Botel Abbey.
(Buittle was anciently called Botel, which derives from the 'Old English' word bōtl, meaning a dwelling, dwelling-place or house", which gives the word the same origins as the name Bootle in England.)
Wikipedia states that Buittle "is currently home to the Laird of Buittle, who is the 24th great grandson of Lady Devorguilla and John de Balliol by descent through John Balliol, King of Scots sister Cecilia de Balliol." This is not quite as impressive as it sounds, a large swathe of the population also being able to make a similar claim!
