Dowies House (8 of 8)
Internally, the many alterations the building has seen over the centuries, have denuded it of almost all interesting features, although a good turnpike stair remains in the stair-tower and there were still remnants of the old pine panelling in the window embrasures, as late as the 1960s. There has been no vaulting in the building. There are two rooms on each floor of the main block, with a small apartment in the wing.
(The distant hill to the right of the righthand tree, is Cairnharrow, which is on the far side of Wigtown Bay. The other hill, just visible through the trees above the four saplings to the right of the castle, is Cairnsmore of Fleet, which is nearly 30 miles away. It was the most gorgeous day!)
