Getaway (Explored)
For Our Daily Challenge: Break Free
Every once in a while, my wife and I feel the need to break free of our daily routine of being retired and doing whatever we feel like doing at home. So we go somewhere else and do whatever we feel like doing there for a while.
Last week, we headed down to Starved Rock State Park, about 90 miles southwest of Chicago, for an overnight stay at the Lodge there. It’s a grand old Lodge, built in the 1930s by the Depression-Era Civilian Conservation Corps, and is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Park itself is great too, with lots of canyons and hiking trails.
Here’s a look down the main promenade in the Lodge, with the gift shop on the right (where my wife likes to browse), and the Dining Room at the end, where we used our Golden Years Getaway breakfast voucher.
