Future Trees
These are maple tree seeds, often called "helicopters" or "whirlers," in the process of being formed. They consist of two conjoined wings, each surrounding a seed. Once fully formed, these paired seeds will eventually dry out, and will blow off the tree, traveling in a twisting, swirling motion to a place where they may germinate and grow into a new tree. You can zoom in for a closer look.
