Mom Said To Wait Here... Explored

There's not much happening in this image, but there wasn't much happening for this little White-tailed deer fawn either. Its mother had left it alone in the park behind our house, and had not yet returned when night fell about seven hours after my wife and I first spotted it. During the whole time, the fawn didn't move from that spot, and didn't even get up that I saw, so this was the best shot that I was able to get.

It's the fourth year in a row that we have seen fawns left alone behind our house at about this time of year, so it's becoming a sign for us heralding the arrival of Spring. Hence, I am submitting it for the Our Daily Challenge "Seasonal Changes" challenge.

For any who might be concerned that the fawn may have been abandoned, my wife and I had the same concern the first time that this happened. But some research revealed that it's common for female deer to leave their babies alone in a secluded place and move some distance away to feed to avoid drawing predators to their offspring. The fawn simply waits until the mother returns.

Addendum: We didn't see it, but we assume that mom came back, because the fawn was gone the next morning.
