Anrold House, Lowestoft, from the sea wall

A prominent redidence at the top of the High Street, Arnold House is now divided into flats.

It is a Grade II Listed Building and was associated with the Arnold family.

"The extended Arnold family include Matthew Arnold (24 December 1822 – 15 April 1888) was an English poet and cultural critic who worked as an inspector of schools. He was the son of Thomas Arnold, the famed headmaster of Rugby School, and brother to both Tom Arnold, literary professor, and William Delafield Arnold, novelist and colonial administrator. Matthew Arnold has been characterised as a sage writer. (Wikipedia)"

Below the house in this photo are various buildings on Whapload Road, some of which were net stores in Lowestoft's fishing heyday. Also you can see some of the net drying racks, used for the herring nets to be spread out for drying and mending. All this is part of Lowestoft's fishing heritage.
