Growing violence on all sides only a prelude?

Quoted from the introduction to the book "Who Speaks for Islam?" By John L. Esposito and Dalia Mogahed. Printed in 2007.

Thoughts on the topic: I wrote something with this essence about a month and a half ago. Maybe that's a sign I'm reading the right book for me right now. I've been humbled to the point it's like I've had my knees broken out from beneath me repeatedly. There's nowhere for me to run and no real reason to. I can only learn to scrap all the presumptious mental baggage mass media and whatever other forces have heaped on top of me. Lucky I've spent most of my life in the forest because I have more open curiosity that way. It occassionally gets awkward when I don't see things coming at me, for not being in tune with pop perceptions, but it's better this way.

Thoughts on the art itself: I notice that sometimes certain paragraphs and phrases really jump out at me when I'm reading. Illustrating them is almost no challenge, and it opens up my sense of creativity for more commercial types of work. I only drew the U.S and the Mid East because it seems a lot like these two places are the only places on earth at times, and you'd think for all the coverage we'd all have more understanding. Quantity over quality maybe. Please excuse the ink blotch. It looks to me like a cross between PakMan and a tadpole.
