Used Made by Rae's tip for combining pockets with shorts pieces as one pattern piece. Thus you end up cutting out four pattern pieces (two fronts, two backs) instead of 8 (those four plus four pockets). She used a 5/8" seam allowance to join her pocket to her pattern pieces; I worked backwards from the pattern's horizontal pocket placement and wound up with 1/4" seam allowance. Once both pocket halves are pressed forward, however, the pockets are 1/4" offset, so I had to trim the larger pocket half down just a tad.
