Assignment #13

Blur

In assignment #8 Steve wrote "photography is all about creative problem solving" and this is what I did here - got creative!

Where I live there was one car on Saturday night and none at all tonight, and no well lit up street signs, nor do we have a large room with many lamps, plus we had heavy rain all day therefore couldn't photograph outside - so out came my manual and a search on Google to see what I could do to create a blur, and I came up with this.

I used the inbuilt camera flash but set it to rear-curtain sync which means that the flash fires just before the shutter closes. I focused on the can in the top right-hand corner of my viewfinder and clicked the shutter release button and moved the camera so the can ended up in the bottom left-hand corner, the flash went just before the shutter closed. This created a blurred trail behind the can and a clear image in front.

It just took a few goes at getting the timing right and in keeping the camera straight!
