Paul Gregson says: The Ffarington family pew, in St Andre's Parish Church, Leyland. The door on the left was the family's private entrance. It did have wonderful ornate hinges on the outside. They were rusting away, when I was a child, I wonder if they are still there ?

Paul Gregson says: St Andrew's Leyland, showing the medieval chancel, with to the right, the Victorian vestry, and behind, Victorian organ chamber. At the top of the nave's gable you would expect a cross...there is not one here....because it is a chimney, for the Ffarington family pew !

Paul Gregson says: The wonderful west tower, seen here from the south east side. The tower's stone work was cleaned in the early 1970's. The tower houses two bells, but both are the same note, but an octave apart ! Only the smaller one is used today.

Paul Gregson says: This excellent photo of the west tower, seen here looking at the western-side, shows the wonderful detail, put into the building of this tower. Notice the banding in the stone work, using larger courses of stones. Also notice how the square corners of the tower change, to allow for the octagonal corner turrets. The tower roof originally had a weather vein, to crown it off. The right hand turret is a chimney for the boiler in the cellar.
