The New Resident Hotshot

A few weeks back, UP announced a new 3-day SoCal-Chicago intermodal service, and much to my surprise it was to be routed over the LA&SL. I was curious to see what time it would run, as in recent years the normal train schedule hasn't been very conducive to photography. The train started running, departing SoCal around 1AM. This puts it on Cima Hill at sunrise, so I made sure to head out last Sunday for my first photos of it. It's nice to have a reliable train for mornings on Cima Hill, but aside from that the train won't have a lot of photography usefulness for me. However, during the longer days of the year, there should be some nice photo opportunities up in Utah if I ever get up that way. And on days it gets knocked off its schedule, it may make daylight appearances in Afton Canyon, which would be nice too.
