Knutt
The Knot breeds mainly in Greenland, Canada, Alaska and Siberia in the tundra. It is an extreme long-distance migrant and stops over at the Wadden Sea on the North Sea coast in spring and autumn. Its wintering area is in south-west Africa.
The Knot, also called Knutt's Sandpiper, is a bird of the snipe family. It was possibly named after the Anglo-Scandinavian king Knut the Great, but an onomatopoeic naming after the sound of its calls is also conceivable.
