I posted a version of this image about a year ago, when I was just getting restarted in photography. I was pretty pleased with the result at the time, but I went against my gut when it came time to crop. I had been reviewing and drawing inspiration from work produced by many of the modern masters of b&w architectural photography and thought that a square crop was almost required in this genre.
Now, I'm a huge fan of the square crop, and I do find that it works best for many images. But in this case, the 16x9 crop just FEELS right. So I reprocessed this image from scratch. In addition to the crop change, I also made a few different choices in transitions from dark to light areas of the image. I'm not sure if this new version is any "better" than the original, but it sure FEELS better.
