Fuji X100

by Martin Budd

It's still hard to believe I'm one of the lucky few to have this camera. Turns out I am in the right place at the right time!

You might question that, given that being here at that time meant I was also here for the earthquake.

I'm just surprised to be alive, and grateful to be using the camera.

Anyway, so far the camera is a pleasure. There's much for me to get to know about how it likes to do things - ultimately so that I can work with it in the way I like to do things and get from it the results I like.

It's compact, light, clear, has a film-camera feel, is nice to look through, and I haven't read the manual yet. So far so good. Soon I will read the manual, cover to cover. Like I always say.

The biggest compliment I can give it is that at times I've thought it was my beloved Contax G1 film camera. Which is encouraging - because that's exactly what I'm quietly daring to hope for in this camera: could it possibly be, for me, the digital Contax G1 I've wanted all this time?

Looking at the results on my 13 inch Macbook Pro, I'm semi-inspired. I need to fiddle around with them, and get lots printed. Then we'll see. Or rather, we'll take it from there and see where we can go.

All in all though, it's really, really, really encouraging.
