DMS line up March 1976 at Barking Garage
RD received an almost continuous allocation of MLK registered DMS's from 645 to 664 for route 165. Missing however, were 655, which was held back at Chiswick for 'experiments' (until being sent to TH) and 659 and 660. These two were unusually given Gardner rather than Leyland engines and held back for a few months until being allocated to BK for the conversion of route 169. This photo shows them side by side in the yard at BK along with 349, 298 (still with its all over 'Birds Eye' adverts) and 1620. As I have noted many times, BK suffered a rear blind shortage and many vehicles were given side blinds in the rear - 349 being the very first after it emerged from its six month lay-off.
