Sweet Portrait of Theresa Lasselle Oil & Embroidery on Silk Circa 1800 ~ Monroe County Historical Society Museum ~ Monroe, Michigan

Theresa Laselle was the mother of Jacques, Francois, Hyacinthe, & Antoine. The Lasselles were among the very wealthiest merchants in this region in the late 1700's & early 1800's. Family traditional states that this portrait was done by Theresa's granddaughter, Marie Caldwell while she was in convent school in Montreal. A note dated 1854, however states that this is a self portrait done in Detroit.
