1966 Cadillac Hearse ( JoHan)

Certainly not my best thats for sure. I rescued this from a built up, Painted in very rough stubborn paint, it took three attempts to get this , this good.

I stripped the paint the first time round, and it almost all came off. So I painted it. The paint didn't settle very well. Full of orange peel and fish eyes. So I tried again. Scrubbed the body, soaked it for a few days in detergent, even sanded the surface of the plastic . And again, full of orange peel when it was painted. The paint didn't react well at all to the plastic as it didn't like the chemical I used for stripping the paint. So I stripped it again. Unfortunately this time around, the paint didn't want to come off very well. It went like tar and by now the body was warping a little and getting brittle in places.

So I threw it on a shelf in the garage where it sat for the next ten years collecting dust, and spider shit. Until I decided it was a waste so tackled it AGAIN. This time round I didn't bother dipping it in anything, I just careful scrapped the paint off and sanded it. I went to paint it again, but same thing. Lots of orange peel and grease spots. But I didn't give up. I decided to tackle this differently. I painted it section at a time so I could concentrate better. Did the bonnet first, then the tailgate. Each time I got orange peel and grease spots, but I just kept giving it light sanding, and repainting until they eventually disappeared . I did this with the body. Luckily the body was big enough to do in sections. So did the roof, then both halfs. Even when I varnished it, it still wasn't right. Both side below the belt line, the paint wore thin when being polished, so I had to mask it off and respray the bottom half of the body. Eventually it was done. Sadly all this took its toll. The body is slighlty warped and I lost some detail and the side trim is a bit shallow in places.
