Bouddi Swirls

Blue Mountains and NSW Central Coast trip – April 2012

This shot was taken in Bouddi National Park near Putty Beach, a superbly scenic area on the NSW Central Coast.

The numerous sandstone swirls and patterns, known as liesegang rings, in this section of the Park were simply mind blowing, particularly with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop. The variety of potential compositions here could keep a photographer busy for a very long time!!

I was actually visiting the gallery of Australia’s best known landscape photographer, Ken Duncan, an hour before taking this shot. It was overcast at the time however I happened to glance out the gallery window and saw the clouds breaking on the horizon. Needless to say I rushed off immediately keen to capture a cool scene of my own!

The gallery of course was superb and we returned the following day for a more detailed look at the inspirational prints on display and lunch in the very nice café there.

By the way happy mother’s day to all the mums out there – I hope that you had / are having a great day!!

Taken with a Pentax 645Nii medium format film camera and fuji velvia 50 film
