Wildebeests

This is an example of using sunset lighting to harmonize colour (Book of Photography Chapter 2 - Harmony). Wildebeests travel together, being pounded by the dust of a fierce dust storm, and the heat of a setting sun. The sun's light, as it sets, sends reddish wavelengths of light, overruling all other colours, and unifying them into a single hue. Compositionally, one way argue that this is an example of the rule of thirds, as the beasts are lined against the bottom, horizontal third line. The background of this image is simplified to one colour. Line may be evident, as the group of wildebeests make a line. Photographed by Chris Johns.
