Huge Wal-Mart Supercenter, in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, USA.

This unusually large, about 225,000 square foot, Wal-Mart Supercenter is located in the Western part of Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, USA, and is one of the anchors of a huge shopping center that includes many large, well known retail chain stores and restaurants, including this Wal-Mart Supercenter. I think that this Wal-Mart Supercenter opened in the early to mid 2000's decade, and replaced an older, smaller Non-Supercenter Wal-Mart store that was located in another one of Hagerstown's many large retail districts. The old, Non-Supercenter Wal-Mart that was replaced by this Wal-Mart Supercenter has been demolished, and a Martin's grocery store has been built in its place. This Supercenter is the only Wal-Mart store in Hagerstown and all of Washington County, Maryland, but it is so huge that it serves the area quite well, and there are several other, smaller Wal-Mart Supercenters in nearby towns in both Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as well as the also slightly smaller, 203,000 square foot Wal-Mart Supercenter that I regularly shop at, in the South side of Frederick city, Maryland, about 25 miles away from this one, and only about 5 miles away from my house. The aforementioned nearby Wal-Mart Supercenters to this one include three in West Virginia and two in Pennsylvania. The three nearby West Virginia ones are: a relatively new, 196,000 square foot one in the Northern part of Martinsburg, West Virginia, an older, 205,000 square foot one in the Southern part of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and a small, older 147,000 square foot one in Charles Town, West Virginia. The two nearby Pennsylvania ones are: a relatively new, 185,000 square foot one in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and an older, 207,000 square foot one in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Of all these nearby Wal-Mart Supercenters, the ones in South Frederick, Maryland, South Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Chambersburg, Pennsylvania were originally Non-Supercenter Wal-Marts that were expanded in the same building, whereas the ones in North Martinsburg, West Virginia, Charles Town, West Virginia, and Waynesboro, Pennsylvania were originally built as Supercenters. The Hagerstown, Maryland Wal-Mart Supercenter pictured here was also originally built as a Supercenter, but it replaced a Non-Supercenter Wal-Mart in another location in the same town. I'm not sure whether or not this was the case with the other three Wal-Marts that were originally built as Supercenters that I mentioned here. Hagerstown is located in Western Maryland, with a population of about 40,000 people, and is growing relatively fast in population, mainly due to its strong, largely industrial economy, but also from people moving from nearby, larger metropolitan areas such as Washington, DC and Baltimore, Maryland in order to escape the high cost of living, crime, and burdensome regulations that tend to be found in big cities. Hagerstown is located about 70 miles Northwest of Washington, DC, and about 75 miles West-Northwest of Baltimore, Maryland. The Hagerstown area has among the lowest taxes and costs of living in Maryland, and the city of Hagerstown has plenty of large retail stores and shopping centers of the type that usually tend to be less than welcome in larger cities such as the two aforementioned nearby ones. Hagerstown is the county seat and largest, principal city of Washington County, Maryland, and its metropolitan area has about 270,000 people in both Maryland and West Virginia. Washington County, Maryland is located in Western Maryland, just West of Frederick County, Maryland, bordering both Pennsylvania and West Virginia, currently has a population of about 148,000 people, and is growing relatively fast in population. I currenly live in the Urbana master planned community in Southern Frederick County, Maryland, about 35 miles North-Northwest of the U.S. capital city of Washington, DC, and about 35 miles Southeast of Hagerstown, Maryland, the county seat and principal, largest city in Washington County, Maryland.
