pipe

PVC pipe

PVC is used for many different purposes. Some uses include plumbing, sprinkler systems, and furniture.

2.54 cm diameter, 3 m long, about 1 kg

Since water flows through it, the pipe must be water proof. It needs to be able to withstand a good amount of force so it doesn’t fracture easily. It shouldn’t corrode or rust when exposed to moisture.

PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, which is a thermoplastic polymer.

The primary process that was used to make this pipe was extrusion.

Since most PVC pipes need to be long and have a constant diameter, extrusion seems like the easiest way to manufacture a large quantity. The material is right because it’s fairly strong and it’s also waterproof. It’s also cheap and light.

Millions of PVC pipes are manufactured for many different uses.
