Float and ropes, Indian Harbor, Nova Scotia

Taken back in the summer of 2006, here's a jumping spider (Phidippus mystaceus, female) that suddenly appeared just as I was getting this pic. We were taking advantage of gloomy weather in the St. Margarets Bay area, deciding to spend a few hours at Indian Harbor. I was poking around piles of fishing gear when I spotted this float among heaps of ropes and net. The spider scooted out from under a rope to where you see it just as I snapped the pic. It sat there for only a second before vanishing in the tangle of net beside the float. I had a supplemental lens in my jacket pocket but as I began reaching for it, the spider was already gone.

Taken with my third digital camera, a Kodak P850, a handy pocket sized 5 MP point & shoot that had a good zoom range and image stabilization. Its main fault was the white screen printed lettering adjacent to each control button that wore off over time.
