Dangerous liaison, Proffitt, Texas

Two mating beetles sharing space with a crab spider. After grabbing a half dozen images from various angles, I moved on to other flowers. Returning twenty minutes later, nothing had changed except for there being some separation between the spider's and beetle's legs. It was a bit breezy and the blossom was moving around some, so I gently held the stem, focusing by moving the flower slightly.

Nikon 105mm f/2.5 AI-S lens focused at infinity, with the objective salvaged from a junk Lentar 90-230mm zoom lens reverse mounted on the 105mm. The minimum focus distance of the 105mm is about 3.5 feet. Adding the reversed objective brings that down to just under 4 inches with the focus left at infinity. Pop-up flash lighting shot through a lens-mounted diffuser made from the bowl that came in a "Healthy Choice" frozen dinner.
