Black Widow hatchling... Iscorama anamorphic
This baby black widow is only a day or two out of its egg case and is busy spinning a web. Nearly 100 babies emerged from Elvira's egg case and stayed grouped together until I put some small branches in the terrarium to stimulate web building. This youngster is bridging the gap between two twigs against a carpet of bright leaves lining the floor of the terrarium. She's so small that her legs are translucent, allowing the color of the background material to show through. What will someday be a flashy red hourglass is, at this young age, nothing more than a drab, beige shape on her abdomen. Elvira died a few years ago but not before laying eggs from a mating that must have occurred several months previously, in Texas.
Nikkor-H 85mm @ f/16, fitted with an Iscorama anamorphic lens (1968), with the objective from a Kiron 35-135mm zoom lens reverse mounted on the Isco. Nikon SB-20 flash bounced off foil covered reflectors. The Kiron objective is a difficult supplemental lens to work with, having an exceptionally curved field and a very short working distance of 2 inches when used with the 85mm and Iscorama.
