Creating garden beds, March 2011
The garden beds on this terrace will be planted largely with annual sun loving vegetables. The bed preparation is simply to skim off the existing vegetation then scrape the topsoil off the areas that will be pathways and add this soil to the areas that will be garden beds. No digging of the garden beds. The yellow flowers on the left are wild brassicas. For at least ten years they have been growing deep large roots that eventually rot in the soil, aerating and fertilizing the area. Hence, no need for digging even when starting the garden.
