Stocks

A restored example of village stocks this is on a small area of grass in the village of Sandon, Staffordshire, England. They are leg stocks which were used in the middle ages as a punishment for villagers who had committed minor misdemeanours such as indebtedness, petty pilfering, gossiping, etc. As well as exposing a miscreant to the humiliation of being publicly identified, it also provided the opportunity for other villagers to pelt the poor unfortunate with rotten fruit and veg. This version will uncomfortably seat two people.
