MERE PENDANT - PAKOHE (ARGILLITE) "murray anderson"

This Mere style carved pendant is handcrafted by the seller, Murray Anderson, from Pakohe (Argillite). This stone was one of the first to be used by Maori for tools and weapons and pre-dates the discovery of pounamu by 500-600 years. Highly prized for its ability to hold its edge and its extreme hardness this stone holds great mana. Many of the artifacts in NZ museums are made from this stone.

This fantastic Mere is 85mm high and 30mm wide and hangs by a waxed black adjustable cord. This peice is a mix of dark blue and blue/grey stone and tapers evenly along the length of the blade,I have carved a kuru on the blade.
