Adorable Moppets, Reverse Inscription: "By N. G. Johnson, Meadville, Pa, Jany 24 1856"
When I received the daguerreotype of my lovely little girls (www.flickr.com/photos/60861613@N00/6882946259/in/photostream), I found this fantastic inscription on the reverse, scratched into the plate by the photographer. Now I know the exact day this was taken. And now how I do wish he had added the little sisters' names, too!
Johnson, N.G.: Daguerreian, Meadville, Pa., 1855-1856. Rubber stamped identification in daguerreian case also noted him in another, unreadable, location. Another identified image dated May, 1856, has written in the back of the case "N.G. Johnson, Daguerrean, Amerotypeist". Another source recorded Johnson in Meadville from January to June, 1855 as well. Information corrected to November, 1997; © 1996, 1997 John S. Craig
