Queen Mary I, daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon

Mary Tudor (1516-1558) succeeded as Queen of England in 1553 and married Philip II of Spain in the following year. A disastrous cleaning in 1976 revealed that the painting is substantially a 19th-century pastiche, perhaps over a 17th-century original.
