Grave Goods, Ur, 2,500 BC, British Museum, London, England, April 2014

The items grouped here belonged to a man who was the principle occupant of one of the smaller royal graves. Men in the royal graves are normally distinguished by the weapons that they carry but some of them also wore jewellery. And they often wore a diadem or headband. This man wore several. Rings might also have been worn in the hair and a single earring, apparently never two. Necklaces were also sometimes worn by men. Pair of gold hair-rings and a gold diadem These were originally attached to a ceremonial wig found in a corner of the tomb.
