Class 498.1 steam locomotive "Albatros"
Class 498.1 express passenger train steam locomotives of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD), nicknamed Albatros on account of their white cab roofs, were built by Škoda Works Pilsen in a rather small batch of only 15 engines between 1952 and 1954, of which only three remain in preservation today. The 498.104 built in 1954 is nowadays a key part of the Slovak national collection. It is owned by ŽSR MDC (Museum and Documentation Centre of the Slovak Railways) and cared for by the namesake, volunteer-based Albatros Club in Bratislava. This steel beauty, given the name Rebecca, is seen here at the Bratislava Central Railway Station.
