Achenseebahn Riggenbach rack locomotive No1 'Theodor' (Florisdorf Locomotivfabrik 701/1889) couples up at Jenbach, in a rain shower, to haul the 15.30 to Seespitz on 24th June 2022. In May 2008 Locomotive No1 was severely damaged in a fire which destroyed the engine shed, however by the 2009 season both the shed and locomotive had been rebuilt. A connecting rod from the piston to an eccentric on the small drive wheel located above and between the locomotives driving wheels drives a countershaft on which are fixed two small cog wheels meshed onto two larger cog wheels fixed either side of the main drive cog wheel on another, lower, countershaft. Mounted on the ends of this lower countershaft are eccentrics fitted with connecting rods to eccentrics on the locomotive's driving wheels. This configuration allows the locomotive to work as adhesion only when operating away from the rack system. The inclined bolier, sidetanks and cab, evident in this view, are necessary to maintain correct water levels in the boiler when operating up the 1in6 rack sections on the line.
