With safety valves lifting as soon as the regulator was eased on the approach to 25 mph speed restriction for the Kingsbury loop line at Whitacre Junction, and with condensation on the tender side sheets indicating a full tank,ex GWR Castle 4-6-0 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' seems in fine fettle, albeit without the normal headboard, at the head of VT's 1Z43 07:50 Tyseley - York 'The Christmas White Rose' on 10th December 2016.
On an extremely dull morning the speed limit was a blessing in light which photographer's would usually term as 'a fortnight at f2.8'. However, after the previous week's tour was cancelled due to NR gauging issues at Nottingham, it was a relief just to see 5043 back in mainline action.
