Corso San Sabino (Canosa di Puglia, Italy)
This photo distinctly stands out in my mind. It was mid-afternoon in June and the temperature had reached about 105 degrees. The heat seemed amplified by the pavement. But the white stones of the facade of Canosa's cathedral radiated a coolness, even if it was only in my head.
Canosa di Puglia is a town located in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani in the region of Puglia (Apulia), the heel of Italy's boot. Canosa possess a rich historical and archaeological heritage dating back to the Hellenistic period. The cathedral is dedicated to San Sabino, bishop of the region in the sixth century. Sabinus left an architectural legacy in Canosa that is believed to have rivaled Milan and Ravenna. However, unlike those cities, the treasures of Canosa were not well-preserved.
