Iolair-Bhara
Sgùrr a' Mhàim
Taken yesterday (31st April 24).
My 'dedication' may be coming into question these days.
I hung around at this spot for a wee while, desperate for stronger sunlight to emerge from a obscuring high veil of cloud. Whilst waiting, I took a few shots anyway. In the end I ran out of patience, hoping that the scene would still 'work' with the muted sunlight. This was probably the better image of the few I took.
Years ago, I would have waited until I developed frostbite in my toes!
Incidentally, Sgùrr a'Mhàim's south ridge, the 'Devil's Ridge!!!' (stupid, hysterical modern name with no historical relevance - it's actually the 'Bealach a' Chip'), defeated me yesterday.
I reckoned I'd solved the trickiest section, only to be repelled by a 'backwards scramble' down some rocks at the lowest point on the ridge. Ordinary it would have been a breeze, but a film of solid lethal ice meant that even my snow spike shoe thingamajigs were rendered useless. I just felt that a slip was far too likely & retreated, accordingly.
