Conic Hill
The usual hazards of shooting into the glare of a rising sun.
'Conic' is not, as many think, a reference to the hill's shape (although it can look a bit cone-like seen from certain angles).
No, the name is yet another slapdash anglicization of the Gaelic 'Còinneach', meaning 'mossy'.
Loch Lomond lay under a thick duvet of radiation fog yesterday morning. A very confident prediction of early wall-to-wall clarity (by weather 'experts') was given short shrift by Mother Nature. Yes, prior to sunrise, an extensive mass of cloud rolled in from the south-west, obliterating any prominent peak in the process, & mocking my dreams of rosy snow peaks rising into a clear sky during the first hour of daylight.
