Stob na Doire (Buachaille Etive Mòr)
In my view, the strongest image I've managed to capture since I dusted off the camera in October. You may think differently, of course.
Stob na Doire rears up so impressively from this part of the ridge that it really does give Stob Dearg's seemingly untouchable "furrowed visage" a run for its money.
This first traverse of the whole ridge in over 25 years actually left me quite taken aback. Possibly as a result of low visibility at the time, my recollections of that first dalliance aren't remarkable. The strongest memories of that day were of going on to Buachaille Etive Beag. The cloud ceiling had lifted by then, allowing the full grandeur of my surroundings to finally become apparent. I remember the grandstand view down Loch Etive's 'gun-barrel' &, maybe oddly, a pair of playful ravens that seemed to follow me for an age, as if fascinated by my presence. Anyway, my recent return to Buachaille Etive Mòr may as well have been my first visit, given the impact it had on me. The scenic quality never lets up for the entire duration - all the way to Stob na Bròige & that jaw-dropping view down to Cruachan & beyond.
