The Lighthouse from 1859 at 52 meters above sea level, Bjuröklubb, north Sweden

Bjuröklubb is a headland ("club") in Lövånger’s parish, Skellefteå municipality, Västerbotten. On the cape there is a fishing village, a Virgin harbour, and several ancient monuments. A chapel was built in the area in the 1600s. Gärdviken, west of the peninsula, got a pilot site in 1821 and in 1859 the lighthouse was built. During the First World War several ship incidents occurred at Bjuröklubb. In 1916 the so-called Bjuröklubb hijacking took place. The German ship S / S Lisbon and S / S Worms were fired at Bjuröklubb by Russian patrol boats and then taken to Finland. During World War II Gärdviken was a collection point for the German ore carrier vessels before they went in convoy to Germany. The lots location was closed in 1967 and since 1970 no one is working at the lighthouse.

The area became a nature reserve in 1976 since Bjuröklubb was considered to be located in an area of national interest for cultural heritage conservation. It’s often sunny at Bjuröklubb. The location out on a peninsula in the Bay of Bothnia, the easternmost point in Sweden, apart from Haparandakusten, contributes to the sea breeze keeping the clouds away.
