Throwback Thursday (487)

This week we are going back twenty-eight years to 1997 and to KC 25 parked on Burgh Quay dressed for route 5.

Route 5 started operating between the city centre and Mount Merrion (going via Ballsbridge) in 1952, extending to Kilmacud the following year. From 1973 to 1975 it terminated at Beaufield Park, behind Stillorgan Shopping Centre. This terminus was used by a number of routes over the decades. in 1975 route 5 was extended to Lakelands on Kilmacud Road Upper, and in 1987 it was extended to Sandyford Industrial Estate. The route ceased to operate in 2011 under Network Direct changes.

KC 25 was new to CIE in 1983. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus in the late-1990s. The last GAC / Bombardier buses ran in the capital in 2000 (apart from a farewell run in 2001).
