exhibition│IN MY ABSENCE Berkeley, CA, U.S.A.

I am pleased to announce that my self-portrait "On The Edge Of Passing" has been curated into a juried exhibition of portraits "In My Absence" showcasing 46 portraits which cover a wide spectrum of medium and genre from artists across the country, and will be exhibited at the B-Side Art Gallery, uBe Art in Berkeley, California, U.S.A. from May 6 thru June 26, 2016.

About the exhibition:

“I leave you my portrait so that you will have my presence all the days and nights that I am away from you.” - Frida Kahlo

Artists have created self portraits for centuries—in part to ensure presence in their absence.

Often portraits convey the impression the artist believes, hopes or fears they leave on those around them. It may covey something unspoken, or simply be a visual feast for beauty sake. It may hint at something as did the Mona Lisa.

This special exhibition of portraits looks to reveal a hint at what lies beneath."

“Artists have created self portraits for centuries—in part to ensure presence in their absence,” said Winn Taylor, uBe Art’s proprietor and curator. “The exhibition is full of emotion, humor and soul. The range of imagery gives me chills. It was a daunting task for our jury to narrow down our selection to 46 pieces from over 700 entries. I am incredibly excited to share these works with the Bay Area. It’s really a fantastic line-up!”

The Opening Reception is taking place on Friday, May 6, from 6-9PM. It will feature an open bar and live music with Sean Lee, delivering everything from zig zag blues to banjo funk to swamp glam—singing and playing the banjo in a sloppy rag time rhythm to the beat of a bass drum kick & a tambourine shoe.
