to z powodu kwiatów
kochanka mojego wyprawiłam na biegun południowy
a gdy go wyprawiłam stwardniały mi usta
i już nie mogłam się napić z czystego źródła
choć pochyliłam bardzo nisko głowę
to z powodu kwiatów
które nie rozkwitły
z powodu gołębi
którym skrzydła od nagłej wiedzy ściemniały tak bardzo
że zamiast złote w słońcu
były czarne
jak noc bez gwiazd
ślepa od urodzenia
z powodu gołębi
mój kochanek postradał palce u rąk a potem dłonie
i już nie miał czym pieścić
w moim domu owiniętym wokół gałęzi drzewa
rozchwianym na wietrze -- czekam
i wypatruję
jak gdyby stamtąd mógł powrócić jeszcze
i w nieobecnych dłoniach przynieść
słoneczny rozkwit kwiatów i gołębi
czekam i wypatruję

it was on account of the flowers
that I sent off my lover to the South Pole
and after I sent him off my lips hardened
and I could no longer drink from a clear spring
although I bent my head very low
it was on account of the flowers
which did not blossom
it was on account of the doves
with feathers that from sudden knowledge dimmed so much
that instead of being golden in the sun's gleam
were black
just like a starless night
blind from birth
it was on account of the doves
that my lover first lost his fingers and then hands
and no longer had anything to caress with
in my house wrapped around with tree branches
swayed by the wind -- I wait
I gaze
as if he might come back from there yet
and in absent hands bring
the sunny blossom of flowers and doves
I wait and gaze
