1964 Austin Gypsy
Last taxed in 1982 although my guess is that it's been used off road much more recently than that. It only appeared here a couple of days ago.
I've realised how little I know about these. I thought they had a Rolls Royce engine, but that was the Champ. These had a version of the six cylinder BMC C series.
No they didn't. It was a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder engine as fitted to the Austin A70. I wasn't aware this engine existed!
Around 21,000 were built between 1958 and 1968; a fraction of the number of Land Rovers who were its main competitor. Unlike the Land Rover, this has steel bodywork.
They were also assembled in Australia and New Zealand although I don't recall ever seeing any in Australia by the 1980's.
