205s with new MOTs

The white car now has 156,000 miles on it, having covered around 7,000 in the last year. Due to its high mileage and less than pristine appearance I'm aware that a time will come when it is no longer economic to keep it on the road. This was not the year however, and the only things it failed on were a marginal tyre and the contentious number plate. The only other money I spent on the car during the year were a set of wiper blades (50p each from the scrapyard; unworn Bosch items}, although I did spend a few hours taking off the door panels and lubricating door locks and window winders. This necessitated the purchase of a set of Torx screwdrivers, which IIRC was around £15,

The blue car has 80,700 miles and covered less than 400 in the year, which almost leads me to conclude that it's a waste of money keeping it on the road. It needed 3/4 of the brake pipes replacing and a new wheel cylinder for the MOT at a cost of over three times what the test for the white car cost. It also had a set of wiper blades in the year (same source and price) and a new battery (£15 from the scrapyard; less £5 trade in on the old battery; somewhat of a better deal than a retailer who CHARGES you £5 to take the old battery....)

So....£400 ish on MOTs, £300 ish on two lots of insurance, £145 tax on the blue one (the white one is taxed into next year...but I did have to tax the ZX in June); it's been an expensive month. And the TV licence needed renewing.....
