Climbing

As I am sure crews would admit, it is no easy task getting out of the Lake Superior Basin. I saw this loaded oil train over by Ambridge and decided to revisit Rockmont in addition to Bennett and Solon Springs. I did not look at the time, but it took quite some time for the train to get to Rockmont, and when it did, it was a complete struggle. The crew is doing their best to keep the train rolling having climbed to an elevation of 1,005 feet here south of the Amnicon River after around 680 feet at the east end of Pokegama Yard. The grade tops out between Hines and Hawthorne at 1,170 feet - by doing some elevation readings on the USGS National Map.

This was the one and only shot of this oil train for me. No sign of it at Hawthorne, or Bennett, or Solon Springs. I am wondering if it stalled climbing Hawthorne Hill. Oh well.
