Fog City Blues: San Francisco, CA
On a recent meet-up with fellow Flickr photogs (Jave, Alan, Jared, & Carl), I was able to photograph a place I've always been curious about. I've seen countless compositions from here, and a lot of them brilliant shots. It was a foggy evening, but we were fortunate to have a half-view of San Francisco and the Bay Bridge.
I decided to do a panorama, but the light was changing quickly, so I added about 5 seconds for each shot, and went from darkest to lightest (closest to sunset). This helped compensate for the changing light conditions, but I think I could have added 10 seconds for each shot and been better off. I opted for a tight aperture to get more starry light effects on the bridge, and since it is a panorama, the sharpness is still great.
I like how the fog increasingly engulfs each tower the closer to San Francisco. I had a great time shooting with these talented gentlemen. If you look close, you can see the blur from Jave crouched like a ninja on a rock to the right. Fortunately, he wasn't wearing a ninja outfit, or that would have freaked me out.
Canon 5D Mark II
Canon 24-105L @90mm
Five, 45-65 second exposures @ F18
Lee soft ND grad .9 filter
RRS Pano bar
ISO 50
