Palouse Daybreak: Steptoe Butte SP, Washington
Please view large size.
This image shows the entry to Steptoe Butte State Park in southeastern Washington state. The sun had just come up above the horizon, and was making an orange glow on the tops of the Palouse Hills. This was the only sunrise I was able to shoot without rain in this location, but it was completely worth the trip.
The previous morning, after waking up early and driving up to the top of Steptoe Butte in the rain/fog/clouds only to be skunked by the weather, I was driving down and spotted a MOOSE! I didn't even know moose came down that far, but I was able to get some HD video of it. Considering that I didn't get any landscapes from that morning, I was utterly pleased to have the encouter with the moose. Some of the best things about photography have nothing to do with the end goal. It was just a cool experience.
