08. Harriet Gislam - LINKING SOILS AND HUMAN HEALTH: GEOSPATIAL ANALYSIS OF PODOCONIOSIS OCCURRENCE AND CAUSE IN CAMEROON

This research focuses on the disease podoconiosis, a form of elephantiasis. It is estimated that globally around 4 million people suffer from the disease. The exact causal agent is unknown but has been linked to individual’s exposure to red-clay soil from alkalic volcanic rock. This poster presents the outcomes from objective 1 of the project: To investigate detailed soil elemental and mineralogical data, and identify specific soil correlates with podoconiosis prevalence data, using geo-statistical analysis.
