Park Avenue Voice Tunnel 2013 Summer Streets in New York City | Seeds for sounds
That's the voice prompt.
For three Saturdays New York's Department of Transportation closes off nearly seven miles of Manhattan streets for bicyclists and pedestrains to play. Voice Tunnel is the feature installation by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. The Park Avenue tunnel in front of Grand Central Station was shut down and this wild art installation was setup. Participants are able to influence the intensity of each light by speaking into a special intercom at the tunnel’s center which records their voice and loops it. Louder speech will increase the lights’ brightness proportionally, creating a Morse-like code of flashes throughout the tunnel. You can watch a video clip of it in action here. You should go experience Summer Streets on August 17th!
