Extension tubes

I know this is not the most unique image ever but I was dying to get into macro. However funds do not allow a macro lens at the minute so I heard about extension tubes.

Any feedback good or bad much apprecitated about using the tubes. When looking through my camera it is very dark so dark I can hardly see to focus. And "yes" I have taken off the lens cap (as has been suggested (cheeky beggers))
