Tiruttani (Tamil: திருத்தணி, Telugu: తిరుత్తణి) is a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the main tourist centre in Thiruvallur district about 90 kms by road from Chennai. Thiruthani Murugan Temple is one of the six abodes of Lord Muruga. Tiruttani is 15 km from Andhra Pradesh state. Nearby Famous temples are Madhur Arulmigu Mahishasuramardhini temple, Nallatur Arulmigu Veera Anjaneya temple, Arulmigu Arumugaswami temple and Sholingar Narasimma swamy temple.

 

Tiruttani is located at 13.18°N 79.63°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 76 metres (249 feet). Alternate names for tiruttani are Thiruthani, Thiruthanigai, Thanigai.

 

Tiruttani has good transport links to nearest city,town and villages. Tiruttani bus depot has 35 bus busses and 42 Mofussil buses. During the festival season adequate Number of additional buses are being operated to various places for the benefit of devotees. Tamil Nadu state transport corporation operates frequent buses to locations like Chennai, Salem, Bangalore, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Arakkonam, Chittoor, Chengalpet, Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai, Podathurpet, Pallipattu and Tirupati. Apart from that APSRTC operates direct buses to Tirumala Temple.

By Rail Southern Railway of India operates frequent passenger services to and from Chennai. Service starts from 4.55am and available till 10:50pm. Apart from this express trains like Sapthagiri(to Tirupathi), Kacheguda(to hyderabad), Mumbai mail and Dadar(to Mumbai) stops here.

 

As of 2001 India census, Tiruttani had a population of 38,502. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Tiruttani has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 64%. In Tiruttani, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. Vanniyar, Kamma Naidu, Balija Naidu, Agamudaya Mudaliars, Thuluva Vellalars, Telugu Brahmins, Kammalars, Boyars and Konda Reddy form a major population in Tiruttani.
